When Windows 95 starts, the graphic file Logo.sys ( in the root directory )
is displayed. In spite of its sys extension, it is a bmp file and can be
edited by MS Paint.
It is an animated bitmapped file, so if you edit it with MS Paint, you'll
lose the animation. You can, however, substitute any other bitmapped file.
If you delete Logo.sys or if your system came without Logo.sys in the root
directory, Io.sys has an internal version of Logo.sys which it will use
instead. Getting rid of Logo.sys doesn't make it go away.
Included in this zip is a file called Logo96.sys which is an animated
version of a "Windows '96" startup logo. Make a backup of your original
Logo.sys or rename it to Logo95.sys. Copy Logo96.sys to your root
directory of your boot drive (usually C:)and rename it to Logo.sys.
So that you can have matching bookends, there is a file in this zip called
Logow96.sys which will replace your shutdown Logow.sys. In your windows 95
directory (usually c:\windows), make a backup copy of Logow.sys or rename
it to Logow95.sys and copy Logow96.sys to this windows directory. Then
rename Logow96.sys to Logow.sys.
Reboot and enjoy! ;-)
